Koinly alternatives, picked by what people leave over

Five tools, ranked by the four complaints that send people looking.

If you are leaving Koinly, it is usually for one of four reasons: the numbers came out wrong and you cannot see why, you could not reach a human when it mattered, an import half-worked, or you could not log in at all. We read every 1 and 2 star Koinly review on Trustpilot from the last twelve months (22 of them, out of 103 all time) and those four account for nearly all of it. The right alternative depends on which one you hit, so this page is organised by complaint, not by feature list.

For a wrong-number problem you want a tool that shows its working per asset. For a support problem you want one that promises a person, in writing. For a broken import you first need to know whether the data exists anywhere. For a login problem, any of the tools below will do, and you can be on one this afternoon.

First, a fair word for Koinly. It answered all 22 of those low-star reviews, usually within days. Its integration list is one of the longest in the category. Most of the people writing the reviews had used it happily for years. What went wrong for them tends to be structural rather than careless, and structural is exactly what a switch can fix.

The four reasons people leave

1. The numbers are wrong and you cannot see why

The most frequent complaint by a distance. Balances that do not match the wallet, cost basis that does not match what was paid, gains that are simply not believable.

"My portfolio is completely wrong over the past 5 years and unable to track everything correctly. My balances are all out and I doubt they're accurate." (Koinly, 1★, August 2026)

"My account shows me having 270 litecoin and 98 veritaseum." (Koinly, 1★, August 2026)

A replacement needs two things: a running balance per asset you can inspect, and an explicit list of exceptions (sales the tool could not find a purchase for, transfers it could not pair) rather than a silent zero cost basis. If the new tool cannot tell you why a figure is what it is, you have moved the same problem to a different screen.

2. No human when it goes wrong

Email-only support on a two to three day cycle, an AI chat that loops, and a paid review that stalls. The complaints cluster in March, April and August. Filing season.

"I get one email every 2-3 days... and getting resolved answers around tax sensitive data can not wait." (Koinly, 1★, April 2026)

"I always wait 2 days and never get live help. The system doesn't let me talk to anyone." (Koinly, 1★, October 2025)

Ask the replacement for a written response-time promise that does not carve out filing season, and a route to a person that does not start with a chatbot.

3. Imports that half-work

Exchange connections that fail, CSVs from the exchange's own export tool rejected, LP positions on Orca and Meteora unreadable, and integrations that rotted after a chain upgrade.

"Try to connect to exchange. Can't connect. Try to import files. Can't import files literally imported from the exchange." (Koinly, 1★, March 2026)

"Koinly's software is just plain bad when it comes to these types of transactions" on Meteora and Orca LP positions. (Koinly, 1★, May 2026)

Before you switch over this one, work out whether the data exists in a form any tool can fetch. If an exchange died or the chain is unindexed, a different importer will not help and you are into reconstruction. Our guide to missing Koinly transactions walks the six causes in the order to check them.

4. Cannot log in

A repeated "network error" across browsers and devices, with help gated behind the login you cannot get past.

"I can't even login. You need to login to even get help. The AI isn't helpful. Tried multiple browsers." (Koinly, 1★, April 2026)

This one is Koinly-specific and no alternative can claim immunity from outages. It is, though, the reason a lot of people search this page on the day, so: the tools below let you import before you pay, and you can have your data in one by tonight.

The alternatives, ranked

Ranked by how well each answers the four complaints, not by how many logos are on the integrations page.

1. Moonscape

This is our product, so weigh accordingly. It is built around complaint number one: every figure traces to the transactions behind it, each asset carries a running balance, and any sale that dips below what you hold is flagged in the exceptions report as a must-fix item rather than given a zero cost. The count of open items sits next to the total, so you know what the total is worth before you pay for it. Transfers between your own wallets are matched and never billed as sales; USDC costs what you paid for it.

Support is a person within one business day, filing season included, and that promise is on the pricing page in writing. Pricing is one payment per tax year rather than a subscription, from $39 to $199 (£35 to £159), and spam and dust airdrops never count toward the tier. Importing and reconciling are free; you pay when you want the report.

The integration list is shorter than Koinly's, and jurisdictions are US, UK, Germany, France, Australia and Poland. If you file elsewhere, look further down.

And if the data is gone (a dead exchange, a lost wallet), the Concierge rescue service rebuilds it by hand, from £499 after a free diagnostic scan. None of the software-only tools below offers that.

2. CoinTracker

Broad coverage, a strong US filing package and TurboTax integration. The low-star reviews are mostly about pricing rather than accuracy: transaction tiers that count spam airdrops, forced upgrades, and a price rise for the same service. If your complaint about Koinly was numbers or support, CoinTracker's reviews say the same things about it, so check what people leave CoinTracker over before moving.

3. CoinLedger

Simpler and cheaper for a straightforward US return, with a clean 8949 export. The 2026 reviews flag USDC booked at zero cost, Coinbase imports arriving with missing fields, and live chat switched off in filing season. Good fit for a low-complexity portfolio on one or two exchanges; less so for DeFi.

4. Crypto Tax Calculator

Strong on DeFi and on-chain classification, and one of the better choices if your Koinly problem was LP positions or unusual protocols. Subscription pricing by transaction count, like Koinly.

5. Recap

UK-focused, with careful HMRC share-pooling. A good choice if you only file in the UK and your complexity is exchange trading rather than DeFi. Narrow jurisdiction coverage is the trade-off.

Switching without losing a week

  1. Export everything from Koinly first: transactions, and the wallet and exchange list. Even a wrong Koinly file is a useful checklist of sources.
  2. Connect the sources to the new tool, and compare the earliest imported row per source against the date you opened that account. Gaps here are the cause of most wrong numbers downstream.
  3. Match transfers before you look at cost basis. An unmatched transfer is a phantom sale.
  4. Read the exceptions list, not the total. The total is only as good as the number of exceptions left open.

If step 2 turns up a source that no longer exists, stop and read how to reconstruct missing crypto records before paying for anything.

Import your history into Moonscape free and see the exceptions list before you decide. No card, and the number of open exceptions is the honest measure of whether any tool, ours included, has your figures right.

Start with a free diagnostic scan.

Show us the mess — redacted is fine. You get back how many transactions we found, how many missing cost bases, how many unmatched transfers, and how many tax years are affected. Yours to keep either way.
